Summer's coming

I popped by the grocery store real quick this afternoon and there in the produce section are cherries and corn on the cob, which quickly make me think of summer's at grandma's. Eating lots of corn and picking way too much fruit off the trees. That of course usually came along with picking thousands upon thousands of flowers. Not quite as enjoyable as the parties, but the one usually preceeded the other. It's not unusual for things to remind me of Idaho summers. Most things do actually. The eating, the water fights. Making up games involing water balloons. Making forts. Nerf guns. The only thing we probably didn't really consistently play in the yard was "america's pastime" baseball, because there are only so many balls you can lose in the ditch before you have to call the game. Which most likely led to our "annie I over" preference (although we were much more concerned with throwing things over the roof than we were with teams and tagging people). And to the eventual development of water balloon baseball, which had the benefit of combining getting wet with not having to hunt down the ball.
oh to be a kid again. Before politics and economics taint the beautiful simplicities of life.
Before you learn the ugly lies about the "truth" of Santa, fairies, and so on :)
